HopeSaC - Hope, Service and Charity
Updated: Nov 14, 2020
The HopeSaC Project started as a way to get thermal cookers to those who could not afford to purchase them.

This whole idea of putting a charity together started when I heard that Mr D (Dave) would be helping send thermal cookers to Kosovo on a humanitarian trip.
I was going to Mexico for humanitarian work and really wanted to teach thermal cooking. But how could I teach without having thermal cookers for the people? And how could I afford to buy thermal cookers for everyone?
There was no way.
It got me to thinking...
One morning I found myself awake at 4:30 am with ideas in my head of how to make a fabric thermal cooker. I picked up a piece of paper and pen and sketched out what I thought would work. I have made a few adjustments sense but for the most part the HopeSaCs are exactly like my sketch.

I scribbled a few notes and thoughts about my new design.
1. They are inexpensive to make.
2. The people in Mexico could make their own.
3. I had lots of leftover fabric from my wedding business that needed to be used.
4. Others can donate fabric and other items.
5. I could ask for help in making them - organize humanitarian projects.
6. They could be put into kits and donated unfilled, making it possible to transport.
7. They could be filled with what could be found locally.
8. I could raise money for the project by selling the pattern.
Fast-forward to today:
Over two years has passed, each of these items have materialized.
Hundreds of people have served at sew-a-thons,

Over 200 HopeSaCs kits are now in 5 countries with even more sewn in sewing centers in Kenya.

I have been to Mexico twice

and Kenya four times, there is a HopeSaC club and certified HopeSaC users in Kenya.

Thermal cookers are like a big crock pot, cooking food slowly over time. While slow cookers require constant electricity, thermal cooker utilizes heated (boiling) food to complete the cooking process.
